Ruff-Roadz Preferred Trainer

I would love to introduce everyone to our preferred, local trainer, Alex Cost! Alex is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) and a Certified Professional Animal Care Manager (CPACM). He is an amazing trainer, animal care professional, rescue advocate and dog dad. He recently left a very well-known facility in the area to take a leap of faith and begin his own business. His goal is not just to train dogs, but to offer quality, affordable training and education to every pet parent looking for answers. Just like Ruff-Roadz, he helps people and their pups live their best lives together.

How we Met Man & His Mutt

Thanks to this adorable pup, Zorro, we had the pleasure of meeting Alex Cost and his family about a year and a half ago. Zorro, a beautiful brindle Dutch Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix, had been found in Miami with a badly broken leg. He had surgery in Miami, then was transferred to Providence Animal Center, where they opted to amputate the leg. Post-surgery, he struggled to cope. He began barking nonstop in his kennel, which startled potential adopters visiting the shelter. He was unable to walk straight or play the way he wanted to, which added to his distress. Providence reached out to me at that point and I was happy to help them out! Of course, I fell in love with him the moment I saw him. His wobbly walk, giant head and adorable face, how could I not fall in love?

We got to work with play and teaching how to live life as a tripawd. Hazel, our tripawd, became a great mentor dog for Zorro and Remi was a fun playmate for him. We became very attached and weren’t sure if we would ever find the right home for him. We were on the verge of adopting him ourselves but then the PERFECT family finally came along!

ZORRO BECOMES ORZO

Alex and his partner, Chels, had rescue kitties and 2 dogs, Lucy & Roo. The pups accompanied them to the meet and greet and we found out that their home was already equipped with wonderful adaptations for disabled animals, which aided Roo, who has a set of wheels she often uses on her front legs. On top of that, we found out Alex was a certified trainer, who had worked with both of his pups to help overcome their own obstacles. He worked at a very well-known doggy day care and training facility nearby as well! Zorro hit the jackpot! We knew during that meet & greet that they were the perfect family for Zorro. Alex was knowledgeable about dog behavior and he also had the skills necessary for Zorro to flourish with training, behavior and to help him navigate life as a tripawd :)

Zorro became Orzo and began his new life with his forever family! Orzo is doing awesome and we saw firsthand recently how he and Roo are now best friends. He is also besties(BFF) with a kitty and they’re the cutest pair. Alex has done a great job with Orzo’s training and I have faith that our Ruff-Roadz clients will also flourish working with Alex.

DOGS LOVE ALEX

Over the past year and a half, we have not only trusted Alex with our beloved Zorro, but we have also relied on him to take care of our pups when we needed a little extra help.

He has boarded our pups at his home and also at the facility where he used to work. He always goes above and beyond our expectations. He and Chels love every dog like their own and provide our pups with the perfect amount of love and attention. Our dogs absolutely love them and we love knowing that they are in good hands.
